[Request] Guide to Blue suits

Main Post:

Is there a guide for ideas with wearing blue suits. I know it is a basic question but if there is any tips of what to wear with it I'll gladly be open to hearing. If there is something in the sidebar i can't see I can just delete this but I couldn't find it. Thanks!

Top Comment: Regarding ties, I have an imgur album I made for you. Virtually every color goes with a navy suit .

When is MFA opinion on blue suits (not navy)?

Main Post:

I really want to emphasize that I am not talking about any colour of navy.

I'm talking about "plain blue" suits (shades of pure or lighter blues), such as this one that I just recently bought: https://ca.suitsupply.com/en_CA/suits/hartford-blue-plain/P5407I.html?cgid=Suits

The colour is very light in person, and I thought it looks great.

When is a suit like this most appropriately worn? Weddings, nights out, the office, interviews? Does MFA feel this colour is in style for 2018?

We should also discuss Navy vs. Blue suits.

Top Comment: It's not a traditional business suit and should be treated as such. This means that it's fine in a lot of contexts, but a super conservative office or a court date are not amongst those contexts. They basically fall in a grey zone which makes them hard to wear. As a suit, they are too formal for a lot of contexts. As a casual color choice, they are too casual for quite a few suit-wearing contexts. That's the kind of suit I expect to see on people working in menswear, in some upscale party or in a summer wedding. Not a boardroom, nor on a tuesday morning for someone who works in IT. I have 4 suits that fall in that category... as expected, they don't get a lot of wear.

Blue or Navy Blue Suit?

Main Post:

So I'm thinking of getting a blue suit (I'm a college student). I want something that's sharp and versatile, but I'm afraid it might look too dull or too similar to my charcoal grey suit. What's your opinion on a lighter/bolder shade of blue?

Top Comment:

My vote is for dark navy suit. It is an extremely versatile color that can go well in many different scenarios (e.g. interview, funeral, wedding, etc). Then if you want to look sharp, just make sure it is tailored to your body.

Recent navy blue suit purchase, what color dress shirt and tie?

Main Post:

I am just wondering for job interviews, what color shirt would go best with a darker navy blue suit? I am also wondering in the way of ties to go with this shirt and suit?

Top Comment:

If you want to go really conservative but still look sharp as hell, go with a light blue shirt and a navy tie. Really simple, but looks really good on lots of different skin colors.

Or you can go with the classic white shirt and power tie (usually a striped tie with red as the main color, Google if unfamiliar). Always a classic, makes you look like you mean business.
